Pennsylvania Biodiversity Partnership
What We Do

Mission
PBP's mission is to conserve biodiversity statewide by fostering communication and cooperation among everyone concerned with natural resource values throughout the state. Our activities strive to:
Educate people on the ways biodiversity sustains economic and environmental health and ensures quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
Develop a scientifically-based plan for biodiversity conservation.
Advise state agencies and encourage them to take a leadership role in the conservation of biodiversity.
Promote voluntary conservation of biodiversity on private lands.
Advocate both public and private long-term funding for biodiversity conservation initiatives.
Assess and regularly accout for progress on biodiversity conservation in Pennsylvania.
Almost 30 percent of medicines are developed from plants and animals, and many more are derived from these sources.

Structure
PBP is comprised of an assembly of public and private stakeholders who have an interest in conserving and protecting biodiversity. PBP is governed by a Board that acts on recommendations from seven task forces (Biodiversity Informatics, Education, Funding, Policy, Public Relations, Science, and Stewardship). PBP members participate in one or more task forces, which meet as needed in various locations in the state.

What is PBP Doing About Biodiversity Conservation?
Although members represent a diversity of backgrounds and opinions, a consensus emerged that a comprehensive statewide plan focusing on strategies and opportunities for protecting Pennsylvania's biodiversity must be developed and implemented. PBP is presently developing the Pennsylvania Biodiversity Conservation Plan supported by funding from both private and public sources.
